Meditation is a very simple process, but attaining a meditative state can be
very difficult. The conscious mind wants to maintain control.  Sitting quietly
is so very boring. However, if you can teach your mind to relax you gain
access to a very entertaining place, the subconscious. Meditation is healing
and balance to the body, mind, and spirit. Meditation can rest and heal the
body. Meditation improves concentration and helps to retain information.
Meditation can cure medical and emotional issues.

There are as many forms of meditation as there are stars in the sky. But let’
s not worry about all that. This article is going to focus on simple relaxation.
Start by shutting off as much external stimuli as you can. Turn off your
phone, the television, and the stereo. If you are concerned you might fall
asleep set an alarm to go off in 20 minutes.

Sit comfortably or lay down.  Starting with you feet and working up to your
head, let your mind talk to you body. Your conversation in your head can go
something like this:  “Hello feet, (tighten the muscles in your feet) this is how
you feel when you are tense”. Relax your feet and say, “This is how you
feel when you are relaxed.”  Work your way up your body, tensing and
relaxing your muscles. Telling them to pay attention to how they feel when
they are tense, and then how they feel when they are relaxed. This process
will take about 10 minutes.

For the next five to ten minutes just focus on the state of relaxation. Every
time your mind wants to take control bring it back to your body. A phrase to
keep repeating in your mind can help. This should be a simple phrase like:
“Quiet mind, relaxed body”.

This sounds simple, but keeping your mind from thinking about other things
is not so easy. Do this meditation once or twice a day. Get in the habit of
meditating. After a while it becomes second nature.

Don't Make a big deal of Meditation
A set time or schedule for meditation works for some
people but not everyone.
Try to find time at least once a day for a guided
meditation.
