Indigo Children Basics
By Rahbekah Karlin
There is a great deal of noise in the spiritual world about Indigo children. The
term “Indigo child” originated with parapsychologist and psychic, Nancy Anne
Tappe, who first described the concept in the 1970s. Tappe published the
book Understanding Your Life Through Color in 1982 describing the concept,
stating that during the mid 1960s she began noticing that many children were
being born with "indigo" auras. The idea of Indigo children was later
popularized by the 1998 book The Indigo Children: The New Kids Have
Arrived, written by husband and wife lecturers Lee Carroll and Jan Tober. The
promotion of the concept by Tober and Carroll brought greater attention and
exposure to the topic, and their book became the authoritative source on
Indigo children. They describe the goal of Indigo children to be a remaking of
the world into one lacking war, trash and processed food, though if blocked
from their goal they may end up murdering others or being institutionalized.
Unfortunately, over the past few years it has come to be an explanation for
bad behavior of children and an acceptable explanation to parents of children
with behavior issues. Throughout the ages there have been people who could
do amazing things with their minds and bodies; psychics, mind readers,
healers, telekinetic, ect. Throughout the ages we have seen young people
commit violent crimes. Just because you have a special ability or behavioral
issues doesn’t make you an Indigo child. Indigo children have become big
business for many who claim to know who they are, and what they need. An
article written by Jesse Hyde and published in the Dallas Observer points out
some of the issues involved in the “Indigo Child” phenomenon. Several in the
metaphysical world are making a tidy chunk of change promoting different
programs for these people.
I have worked with Indigos for about 16 years. I feel privileged to be one of
many spiritualists allowed communication with these energies and given
information directly connected to "Indigo children". I have a pretty good grasp
of who Indigos are and why they are here. The term Indigo speaks to the color
of the aura surrounding a person with a high spiritual vibration. I have seen
Indigo auras on many people, however I don't think an Indigo aura absolutely
means a person is "Indigo". In my opinion, the spiritual vibration defines an
"Indigo child" more so than the color of their aura.
A small number of Indigos were born in 1976 with the number born growing
each year. We are now less than two thirds into the Indigo era and the
number of Indigos among us is anybody’s guess. The vibration of the Indigos
is what will raise the spiritual vibration of the entire planet. This vibration is
meant to move us into an age of technological advancement with greater
environmental awareness.
Indigos do not have past lives, but have always been guardian spirits. They
may sometimes have past life memories and phobias based on past life
traumas, but they have never really experienced a life themselves. Many
Indigos feel different than their peers. They often have an inflated ego and
can be quite arrogant.
Indigos are usually very intelligent, and/or have one or more major strengths.
Many are very creative and excel in art or music. Most Indigos are very good
with math, technologies, and have a strong drive to succeed financially. Many
have a strong competitive drive and enjoy playing sports and other games.
They like being the best at whatever they do. The down side to this is if they
are not good at something they just don't want to do it, or they may cheat to
win.
The biggest and the most sure fire sign for me that someone is Indigo is the
presence of a spirit energy that I call "The Regulator". This is an energy that
is non-human and seems to have the purpose of regulating the energy of an
Indigo. Indigos are influenced by more than one spiritual plane which is why
many Indigos seem to have problems with concentration and/or appear to be
scattered at times.
I have noticed a large number of Indigos are born outside of marriage or their
parents’ divorce when they are quite young. Many are adopted or raised by
other family members. I personally think this is because they choose one
parent for their DNA and the other based on spiritual vibrations. This would
make a lasting union between the parents very difficult to maintain.
Indigos are not all powerful or all knowing, even though they may feel like they
are at times. It can be very easy for an Indigo to start taking themselves way
to seriously. Indigos, like many of us, want to find a meaning to existence.
They may be interested in world affairs, in politics, in music, in technology that
will save the world from pollution, hunger and war. But these interests are not
exclusive to Indigo children.
The world needs Indigos to move us into the next evolutionary stage; we need
the vibration to raise our spiritual awareness. Some Indigos get lost in their
own egos, and don't understand that it really isn't about them, it’s about the
entire population. In all things there is good and bad. That is the balance of
the universe; without one there isn't the other. Once born onto this plane an
Indigo has free will, just like the rest of us. They don’t need special camps or
parenting approaches. Indigos need what we all need love, acceptance and
guidance.
The only way to know for sure if you or your child is Indigo is to see a psychic
who can identify the spirit energy that is always around. I think Indigos should
be raised like any other child; with guidance that is grounded and balanced.
Teach them that not everything is perfect and that there is perfection in
imperfection. Deal with your mistakes head on. Try not to ever use the
"because I said so" parenting technique. All children need to understand
tolerance, but Indigos need an extra helping of this lesson.
